Actuaries have traditionally presented analysis results in tables of numbers. While still useful, often pictures really are worth a thousand “numbers”.

John Deacon and Jeff White both participated on the CAS Data Visualization working party to develop this presentation, which will focus on:

1. General learnings we gathered from the working party, and

2. How to apply these learnings in practice.

After an initial overview of data visualization principles and techniques, we will walk through specific examples and then play “Rate That Visual”! “Rate That Visual” is interactive, where we ask the participants to evaluate different visuals for actuarial work based upon the principles presented earlier and their own experiences.
